Start at low volume

Before opening a new sound or preset, lower the device volume, then raise it gradually until clear but not oppressive. Average sound level and duration determine risk together.[1]

The louder the sound, the shorter the safe time

Do not treat “it still feels tolerable” as permission for unlimited listening. Take quiet breaks and avoid repeatedly raising the volume to overpower a noisy environment.

Why binaural difference needs stereo headphones

Binaural difference relies on separate signals reaching the two ears, so stereo headphones must be worn correctly. Needing headphones does not mean needing high volume.

Hearing is not an abstract parameter

Cochlear hair cells help convert vibration into neural signals, and damage is not repaired as simply as skin. Protecting hearing comes before every sound experience.[2]
